Morning Glory Lattice #1: The bare lattice

192 days ago by Dan Lyke | 1 comment »

On the left is how it looks now, on the right is how it used to look. You may think it’s not an improvement, but if you look closely, on the blown-up version of the left, you can see a new lattice there. When we moved in, the back yard had an awning, with lots of ferns and other low sun plants. Most of what we want to grow wants full sun, so we pulled out the awning, and we really need to replace the fence, but we haven’t gotten there yet. So this is forward enough that ho...

Kitchen remodel #5: Have saw, will tile

80 days ago by 3fingerpat | 3 comments »

Received the new wet tile saw from Amazon, several days sooner than expected. The new saw works great and is extremely easy to setup and use, just like it was advertised. I continued installing the small tiles above the back splash as far as I could go. The remaining portion of the wall is not plumb and needs to be refloated. I met with the contractor this morning and she won’t be back until around Nov to do the walls and ceiling. Kinda long from now but she is a dear friend who ha...

The counter top is from the old cabinet. i plan to put down Corian. I’m doing it myself so I’ll do some fill-in first until I get the shop emptied a little. New house building project #1: Our new house week #23

166 days ago by PaBull | 1 comment »

So, we finally got some work done around the new house this week. We are watching the finances (business is not the greatest this year) and this slows us down a bit. A couple of weeks ago we did get our final, so now the push is to get the house livable. Outside we are grading 12” off the top of the yard and we will backfill this with good soil. Our yard is DG, you can not get a shovel in the ground. the garage is still a mess, everytime i do a little project, i need w...

87 days ago by PaBull | 2 comments »

OK Mr Trim, today is your lucky day, I am posting so you don’t have to. The pictures are taken with my PDA, so they are not the best quality. This first picture is me still finishing some cabinet doors going into the laundry room. These are step stools, bought at IKEA for the short people in our household to reach the upper cabinets going all the way up to the 9’ ceiling. Working on the closets and pantry. We are using laminated solid pine for shelving. I fini...

New Windows #1: A false start

214 days ago by Dan Lyke | 5 comments »

Last week, some door to door sales guys came by pitching replacement windows. I thought “this ought to be fun”, and scheduled an appointment. Surprisingly, they seemed to have a darned good deal, 6 Anlin windows, including a monster picture window, for $3200 installed. Poking around gave us a fairly good impression of Anlin windows relative to various other premium vinyl windows (ie: Milgard, etc), but as we dug further we started to think that vinyl wasn’t a look we liked. ...
