Well…if you havent been following my Redwood Deck Blog…you are seeing my newly completed deck for the first time…we just finished it about an hour ago!!! This deck is part of a larger back yard makeover we started last summer…
The construction is actually done on top of cement blocks—so technically this is called a floating deck…on top of the cement blocks we have 2×6×12 treated lumber as joists. Then on top it is finished with 2×6 Redwood.
Below the deck is a drainage are filled with gravel (in part of it…) and then out the back is a drainage pipe…
In front leading to the deck will be a dry river bed…most of the year…and in the winter it will lead the water to the drainage pit and pipe…
My step son helped me tremendously setting all the piers (14)...near the garage/workshop we had to dig them down almost level so that the garage doors swing open flush with the deck…and then each row got a bit easier as the ground slopes down…
If you want to see the other steps click on the link here to the Blog I wrote about this project.
Thanks for looking…Matt

Nice work Matt. How add some shade and you can enjoy that deck during the summer. Just roll out the BBQ and have a nice meal outside.

Hi Napaman. This looks beautiful. I’m completely ignorant of redwood decks, but I imagine you don’t have to do much in the way of maintance. I tried to read through the blog posts you mentioned but were unable to find them, could you point me to them? Thanks!
