Cape Cod in Portland #2: Pre-Project Tour

04-09-2008 06:19 AM by freitag | 6 comments »

Here’s a little tour of the place as purchased, before any projects were started. I think most of these were taken before we actually signed any paperwork. Some other family members were along for the ride to keep our heads on straight. We purchased the home in March 2005. The first two pictures are from the street showing the front and a view down the street. The street is all cape cod style homes from the 40’s. After entering the front door, the fireplace really stoo...

Just thought I’d throw my name into the growing list of Lumber Jocks making the transition into Home Refurbers. Martin, this is a great idea. I’ll try to get my house projects brought over here from LJ as well as post some of the others that I didn’t feel fit on LJ very well. Welcome to all.

What kind of home can you build with 25 million? Here's a peek

04-08-2008 09:34 AM by grovemadman | 6 comments »

I worked on this home for a grocery magnet and entrepenuer. I did the glass showers, seven of them! The work had to be perfect! I’ll update more of my work in the project section to show some of the details involved up close. But for now I just wanted to give you an Idea of how extreme craftsmanship can get. All of the guys on this general contractors crew were the very best I’ve ever seen. every attention to detail was painstakingly worked. There isn’t one joint in this hom...

Cape Cod in Portland #1: First Post.....

04-08-2008 06:54 AM by freitag | 6 comments »

Here’s a wintertime picture of my 1942 cape cod style home in Portland, Oregon. When looking for a home I was not initially drawn to this style of home. After looking at many, many homes, I kept finding myself going back to looking at the cape code style homes from the 1940’s. Eventually, the perfect home at the right price came along and I have been busy every since! can’t seem to get the picture sized right to show the whole house…. I’ll have to work ...

We’d like to share a few pictures of our backyard this morning. I walked around the block today, & took some pictures of our van. I haven’t seen it since last Saturday. We’ve been sticking close to home. <div></div>

The Front of the House... #1: The New Front Porch...

04-06-2008 05:58 AM by Jcees | 12 comments »

If you’re an LJ, then you may have already caught a glimpse of this puppy in my projects on that site. I’ll do it this time as a blog and showoff some of the details and talk about the process just for you, MrTrim. I had to build the large archway twice! A wood boring bee decided to take up residence in the first one. I had made it out of WRC and the little bugger said, “Yummy!” So I rebuilt it out of SYP this time and put in a standing kill order for wood b...

Hi, I’m new to the site. My friend and I have a combined house blog (like two blogs in one?) over at http://www.oneprojectcloser.com. Is it possible to have those entries imported here? It took me a long time to get everything set up over there and I wouldn’t want to lose it all :-) This site is a great idea for home refurbers. Kudos to the programmers and designers.

04-04-2008 01:10 PM by MsDebbieP | 16 comments »

April 4, 2008 Here is an aerial view of my property from ). Somewhere in the house I have a picture of the house prior to our renovations. Originally the house was “one room” deep. We pretty much doubled the size by adding a living room and bathroom downstairs, 2 bedrooms upstairs and the basement area which is now our woodworking shop.
