This project started out being a built in bookshelf, but the client decided to move the bookshelf out away from the wall to create a small room behind it to be used as a meditation and message area when taking a break from work.
If you are interested in how it was built feel free to read about it or watch the video
As with most every project, I started out rough cutting the parts to the general size, usually just a little bigger than needed so I can let the wood move before milling and...

If there’s one thing I hate it’s sleeping in a bedroom that’s full of clutter and clothes everywhere. I always try to clear up my bedroom as best I can but unfortunately my boyfriend doesn’t seem to share my sense of tidiness and it always ends up with clothes and what not spread about the room! When I do get a chance to clean and tidy the room though, there are a couple of ideas I have in mind on how to turn it from something that’s average into something beautiful. Of course there are...

I got up early and added some flooring then I weighted and waited.
And weighted and waited.
Then something broke loose and I was able to make a lot of good progress very quickly.
I was simply laying floor and making cuts. The tools were just appearing in my hands. The glue slops were being cleaned. Weights were being distributed. Boards were being pre-inspected and sorted depending on the damage if any. New boards were coming in and being mixed in with the other boards.

There is a popular definition on insanity going around that had a bearing on me today. Forgive me please if you have heard it but:
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.
I was laying my flooring in the Master bedroom. I took the time to carefully clean the floor, undercut the door jams, snap a line, cut a corner out for my sliding glass door, dry fit, glued, cleaned up, weighted and waited.
Then I came back several hours later, snapped a line 3 ...

I sort of expected a little assist from my son today. He had to go to work. Here I was with this heavy heavy heavy furniture and bulk pick up is tomorrow. I had to scoot furniture this way and that. I got the carpet and trim out about 1/2 hour ago. My son can help me clear the room before I start painting. I’m tired – I finished up an upholstery job and started this. The beautiful thing is – I started. Another room will soon be finished.
I’m off to Houston for the w...

Painting, flooring, hardware, trim is done. You may remember that I built the door trim from scratch. The shoe molding is also mine. Baseboards, I bought.
The design for the simple murals started from my head but they don’t look anything like I started with. My daughter kept refining it. What’s cool is Victoria, picked all her colors, the style of the murals, the location, size color combinations etc. She made her own templates for the edges and picked which edges I used for ea...
