DIY Ideas #1: A few of my ideas of how to turn you bedroom from drab to fab

07-27-2015 10:36 AM by Katies_DIY_Blog | 18 comments »

If there’s one thing I hate it’s sleeping in a bedroom that’s full of clutter and clothes everywhere. I always try to clear up my bedroom as best I can but unfortunately my boyfriend doesn’t seem to share my sense of tidiness and it always ends up with clothes and what not spread about the room! When I do get a chance to clean and tidy the room though, there are a couple of ideas I have in mind on how to turn it from something that’s average into something beautiful. Of course there are...

The Master #1: Demo with obstacles.

07-05-2013 03:15 AM by MarkTheFiddler | 4 comments »

I sort of expected a little assist from my son today. He had to go to work. Here I was with this heavy heavy heavy furniture and bulk pick up is tomorrow. I had to scoot furniture this way and that. I got the carpet and trim out about 1/2 hour ago. My son can help me clear the room before I start painting. I’m tired – I finished up an upholstery job and started this. The beautiful thing is – I started. Another room will soon be finished. I’m off to Houston for the w...

The Master #3: Peace

07-14-2013 08:39 PM by MarkTheFiddler | 82 comments »

I got up early and added some flooring then I weighted and waited. And weighted and waited. Then something broke loose and I was able to make a lot of good progress very quickly. I was simply laying floor and making cuts. The tools were just appearing in my hands. The glue slops were being cleaned. Weights were being distributed. Boards were being pre-inspected and sorted depending on the damage if any. New boards were coming in and being mixed in with the other boards. ...

House Renovation #1: A Family and Friend Renovation

02-22-2011 02:05 AM by chief101 | 3 comments »

My first adventure in refurbishing was in 1974. I added a 17×27 addition to my ranch style home in Northfield Village, Ohio. I built it myself with the help of friends and a few issues of Time Do It Yourself magazines. These were very popular at the time and extremely helpful. The addition had a cathedral ceiling, main room 17×19, exposed beam, an 8×13 laundry room, in ceiling stereo speakers, and recessed lighting. One wall 17ft was an all split brick fireplace. Mason Bill Swa...

Give Your Child's Bedroom a Makeover

12-01-2010 11:17 PM by Mike Blank, CGR CAPS | 0 comments »

Parents know that they rarely have the same ideas and opinions as their children, and this is never more evident when it comes to do give their room a new look – you might want one design while your 8-year-old daughter has a completely different concept in mind. Here are a few helpful decorating tips that aim to please the whole family. First of all, talk to your child and understand his or her vision for the room and incorporate some of those ideas in the design. Keep in mind your d...

Your 4 Home Office Options

01-12-2011 06:57 PM by Mike Blank, CGR CAPS | 3 comments »

Home Offices have never been more popular or practical than right now. They give you access to everything you need to get the job done without the rush hour commute and endless birthday parties. Even larger businesses can benefit. Home offices help save money on location and other overhead costs, as well as travel expenses (read: gas and maintenance costs) incurred with routine driving. And less driving is another great way to go green. The biggest question is: where do you put it? Here ar...

Renovating a mud house... big step up from playing with mud pies!

09-19-2010 01:33 PM by rdlaurance | 7 comments »

Greetings fellow RENOVATORS… Though I’ve been involved in the sister site Lumberjocks for about a year now, I haven’t really been too involved with this site. However my plans initially were to put together some blog entries on some of the renovating work I’ve done on my house, once the house was finished and I had a little more available time. Presently, I’ve got just too many ‘irons in the fire.’ With all of Martin’s work putting together the Creative Hands network, I thought it w...

Building a Custom Trapezoid door for a built in bookshelf

06-09-2018 05:21 PM by BenhamDesign | 50 comments »

This project started out being a built in bookshelf, but the client decided to move the bookshelf out away from the wall to create a small room behind it to be used as a meditation and message area when taking a break from work. If you are interested in how it was built feel free to read about it or watch the video As with most every project, I started out rough cutting the parts to the general size, usually just a little bigger than needed so I can let the wood move before milling and...

The Son's Room #2: Day 3. To the finish.

08-04-2012 12:57 PM by MarkTheFiddler | 28 comments »

Got up at 5:30. As soon as it was light enough, I had an extremely gratifying round of priming. I realized that every stick of door trim for the entire house is primed. It’s 7:50. Jr is asleep. I’m getting that cold glass of water ready as Gary recommended. You learn the most useful things here.
