I should start off by saying that I’m not affiliated with the company in any way that makes the products in my article. I am, however, a homeowner with a cracked double wide concrete driveway – translates to a big $$ replacement.
I began searching for some repair options. My hope was to hold off any further decay as long as I could. I ended up finding a product called Abocrete. I have a short article posted that explains my repair methods that have worked well for me.
If ...

so I’ve managed to complete all of the painting in this room. The old light fixture has been removed, and is waiting on the new one to go up and in. I bought a moisture meter the other day to give myself some peace of mind before installing the laminate flooring over it….turns out I may have opened a can of worms.
I got readings anywhere from an acceptible 2% all the way up to 15% all on the surface or in divots I haven’t filled in. I believe I will still drill some smal...

My better half is out buying paint for our living room plus some other goodies. We have been in this house for a year now and although it was painted when we moved in we can not live with the color “which is in every room including the bathrooms”. I have no idea which color she is picking out, ah maybe a little idea and the operative words are “that’s a great color honey”. So here is what I am starting with. This first picture shows a 2” X 6” velcroed...

August 2010 – A day to remember…..or maybe, to forget.
About 14 years ago, I built this 12×12 tool shed off the back of my shop.
Money was pretty tight back then so I made good use out of recycled siding and some old doors from a previous remodeling project. I wanted to pour a concrete slab but it just wasn’t in the budget.
So instead, I built the floor out of treated 4×4s and 3/4 plywood sitting on concrete pads and gravel. This worked just fine for awhile but eventually it ...

Seems as though it has been a long time (15 months) in coming since my earlier and only posted item here on Refurbishers®. As such, I was feeling that perhaps a new posting was to be my ‘today’s project.’
Project indeed! Perusing through four years of construction photos (literally thousands) … selecting just those that I felt were important enough aspects of the project … importing into Photoshop for editing to trim the memory sizes and then a long sit down with a fresh ...

My first adventure in refurbishing was in 1974. I added a 17×27 addition to my ranch style home in Northfield Village, Ohio. I built it myself with the help of friends and a few issues of Time Do It Yourself magazines. These were very popular at the time and extremely helpful. The addition had a cathedral ceiling, main room 17×19, exposed beam, an 8×13 laundry room, in ceiling stereo speakers, and recessed lighting. One wall 17ft was an all split brick fireplace. Mason Bill Swa...

Some asked to see pictures of the oven fired up here they are. The first loaf of bread being made. I also did a standing prime rib. Along with the rib baked potatoes and corn on the cob at the same time. What a different taste and a whole lot of fun. Enjoy

We went with 2 color scheme for the floor using the VCT tiles from Congoleum. Black and red are the colors we chose (Ebony AL-21 and Santa Fe Clay AL-64). They seem to go real well with the rest of the room. Both colors were a special order from Menards and we had to wait about 1.5 weeks to get them in.
Each color ended up being 9 boxes. At the end of the job we are left with 1 box each. At this point I’ll probably end up keeping those.
For the pattern we chose the diamond ch...

Besides making a home or business appear neglected, cracks in concrete often cause concrete to eventually buckle and heave, creating a potential for car damage and making it dangerous for passersby to walk on. Concrete Repair and Restoration is essential for value and safety. With concrete fillers and other methods, many tools, proportioning and primers are needed as well as days to dry. Polyurethane repairs are completed and ready for use the same day. With polyurethane repair materials like...

Well, thought I would start a new blog to document the foundation repairs that are necessary on my old house. We have had several contractors submit bids and provide their recommendations. There are actually two foundations on the house, the first is the original house foundation and the second was for the addition that was added some time in the 70’s we think, not really sure when. The newer foundation has been having blowout at several points, which one contractor showed me was due...
