Day 10: Yesterday. I started dry fitting my base boards and I got completely twisted. To my credit, I put the compressor away without firing a single shot. I opened up a forum question instead and got some really sound advice. The sound advice is unfortunately going to set my project back by as much as a week. It will be worth it in the end. This was definitely a long day. I did a door – big deal. But I was determined to finish the floor. It was 6:00pm by the time I got all the tile down. At 7. I got home with the grout. I added water to the bucket from the hose and I said “That looks like 2 quarts!” No more eyeballing the water. It took 1.3 bags of grout to get the right consistency from my eyeball method. I was busy all day but don’t feel like I have much to show for it. I painted the closet. Those suckers are little rooms. It took the better part of 3 hours. I touched up some of the trim work, used the shop light to find flaws in all my paint job. Touched those up as well. I got my corners smoothed out then blended in some crows foot pattern. I got out my shop lights so I could start painting. What do you know. I had done a lousy job on one section of my texture blending. Note to self. Use the shop lights during texturing. I started painting one side of the door frames down to the floor. My first adventure in refurbishing was in 1974. I added a 17×27 addition to my ranch style home in Northfield Village, Ohio. I built it myself with the help of friends and a few issues of Time Do It Yourself magazines. These were very popular at the time and extremely helpful.
