Painting, flooring, hardware, trim is done. You may remember that I built the door trim from scratch. The shoe molding is also mine. Baseboards, I bought.

The foundation and the ground works are over. I have made some hand splitted rock foundation and the basement under the house:

Well, we got the permit, & finally started building it.
The demolishing of the old porch didn’t take too long,
because it was so poorly constructed, it was hanging by a thread.
Whoever built it, they poured the slab over some clay in between the foundation walls,
The clay had settled over time, so there was nothing holding up the slab.

Okay, so I went to Sears to purchase their wet saw tile cutter, none in stock, it had to be ordered. Several days later we got the automated voicemail that the saw was ready for pick up. I got the saw home and opened it to find that one side of the metal table top was bent so badly that the hinge wouldn’t work. My wife takes it back the next day and they exchange it for a new one. When I opened the replacement, it also had a bent table top but on the other side now. Back to Sears w...

I used 2 X 6’s for the railing.

My first adventure in refurbishing was in 1974. I added a 17×27 addition to my ranch style home in Northfield Village, Ohio. I built it myself with the help of friends and a few issues of Time Do It Yourself magazines. These were very popular at the time and extremely helpful. The addition had a cathedral ceiling, main room 17×19, exposed beam, an 8×13 laundry room, in ceiling stereo speakers, and recessed lighting. One wall 17ft was an all split brick fireplace. I’m kind of working backward, because you usually put the skirting on last,
but I didn’t have the 2’ X 6” material for the railing balusters yet, so that’s why I went this route.

so I rabbeted a 4” x 4” to rap around the metal post.
