DIY Ideas #1: A few of my ideas of how to turn you bedroom from drab to fab

07-27-2015 10:36 AM by Katies_DIY_Blog | 55 comments »

If there’s one thing I hate it’s sleeping in a bedroom that’s full of clutter and clothes everywhere. I always try to clear up my bedroom as best I can but unfortunately my boyfriend doesn’t seem to share my sense of tidiness and it always ends up with clothes and what not spread about the room! When I do get a chance to clean and tidy the room though, there are a couple of ideas I have in mind on how to turn it from something that’s average into something beautiful. Of course there are...

Bathroom Remodel #1: Choosing hardware

07-15-2014 03:51 PM by Dan Lyke | 3 comments »

The awful paneling is starting to deteriorate and it’s time to re-do the bathroom. We’re narrowing in on tiling options (probably 18” cut stone tiles), we already know the flooring, and we’re looking at what to do for fixtures. We spend a few hours at our favorite kitchen and bath place (where we found the tiles), think they have a tub in the back that might work for us and be a bargain (the house is small, so it’s basically looking for a 18” deep cast i...

Marching orders are in #1: Fireplace surround and mantel.

11-29-2012 11:58 PM by sandhill | 18 comments »

My better half is out buying paint for our living room plus some other goodies. We have been in this house for a year now and although it was painted when we moved in we can not live with the color “which is in every room including the bathrooms”. I have no idea which color she is picking out, ah maybe a little idea and the operative words are “that’s a great color honey”. So here is what I am starting with. This first picture shows a 2” X 6” velcroed...

The Daughter's Room #3: Room Done - On to building storage.

09-01-2012 02:07 PM by MarkTheFiddler | 41 comments »

Painting, flooring, hardware, trim is done. You may remember that I built the door trim from scratch. The shoe molding is also mine. Baseboards, I bought. The design for the simple murals started from my head but they don’t look anything like I started with. My daughter kept refining it. What’s cool is Victoria, picked all her colors, the style of the murals, the location, size color combinations etc. She made her own templates for the edges and picked which edges I used for ea...

Am I Really going to do that to my fireplace!? #1: Some Materials gathered and I'm dying to start!

08-11-2012 03:58 AM by MarkTheFiddler | 54 comments »

Once again, I have totally lost my mind. Demo is not done. I haven’t built a scaffold. I don’t have the fireplace stone veener. I haven’t bought my wood floor for the living room. The hallway is not complete. There are a bazillion reasons why I shouldn’t start and yet….. I’ve got to take a few breaths and delay for a while while I think about execution and the layout of what I’m thinking. The more days I can do that, the better off I will be. If I ...

The Son's Room.

07-31-2012 08:28 PM by MarkTheFiddler | 37 comments »

My son has one year of high school left. I have changed my plans for doing the house so we can get his room next. Years ago I painted a mural on 2 of his walls. The wall paint we keep. I need to touch up the base color here and there but painting will not be a major chore. Another minor chore will be to get the wobble out of his ceiling fan. It’s a nice looking, brushed nickel, Hunter fan so we are keeping it. It’s about 5 year old but I still see similar stuff in the box st...

That old house #8: Down to the wire - crunch time

06-29-2012 03:08 AM by BillyJ | 7 comments »

July 6, 2011. At 7:53 a.m., to be exact. I began my journey into a world of changes. Changes in design, scope, content, and finally – me. As Jerry Garcia would say – what a long, strange trip it’s been. I’m doing many things at the same time. Although I had plans for various aspects of the kitchen to follow a sequence, today just proved how quickly my priorities change (I should say – forced to change). The customer purchased a small TV/VCR that will be mounte...

Emsberry Corner #1: Our journey

07-10-2010 04:17 PM by Brian & Carey | 1 comment »

Our home today and the story of how we got there. We bought a piece of land in September 1998 and it was just covered in port jackson (alien trees) and we had to start clearing before we could even get onto the property. Next we had to create a driveway for our car to get to where we wanted to build. All of this was done by myself, my hubby Brian and our three daughters and every now and then a few friends and family. We then built a 3 car garage and moved into that as a makeshift ho...
