Those of you who know me from Lumberjocks, will now know that I have closed my workshop down in Finland and have moved to Belgium for a new start in life. For those of you who do not know me, you now know the story so far. or can read it here.
I loaded up my trailer and van on the 4th August with as much tools and personal effects (minimum) to allow me to get started on this project, during the remainder of this year and probably well into next year, I will try to blog the progress of the...

I posted this blog on LumberJocks about seven months ago. I had to edit it to restore photos (I have changed my photo host) so while I was at it, I thought I would post it here for my first HomeReburbers blog.
The first major problem (project) started when I walked out the front door of my house one day and my foot went right through the slate porch. It shocked me more than anything because I thought the slate was bedded with a solid concrete pad. We have lived here for 25 years. I have al...

Today people are looking for ways to improve their homes for better living and more enjoyment. Investing a little time and money will go a long way to transform your home into the pride of the neighborhood.
Curb Appeal – Let’s begin outside. Mow the grass, pull the weeds, edge the lawns and give the bedding areas the attention and maintenance they deserve. Liven up the planting areas with perennials for substance, and then go for color with annuals. Select a color scheme such as reds...

July 6, 2011. At 7:53 a.m., to be exact. I began my journey into a world of changes. Changes in design, scope, content, and finally – me. As Jerry Garcia would say – what a long, strange trip it’s been.
I’m doing many things at the same time. Although I had plans for various aspects of the kitchen to follow a sequence, today just proved how quickly my priorities change (I should say – forced to change). The customer purchased a small TV/VCR that will be mounte...

Although I told the client MANY times that this remodeling job will take a long time, I do not think she believed me. Working by myself, and for only a couple of hours a night, it is rather difficult for real progress to take place. There were many items that put a crimp in me accomplishing a lot, the least of which is a demanding client. I left off in the last installment showing a gutted shell, with only a little plumbing and electrical completed.
Time now to install the windows. The...

I left off sharing my experience with a new surprise behind every wall. It continued through the entire demo. I finally got to the point where I wouldn’t be surprised by what I found (or didn’t find). Fortunately, most of the framing by the renovators who previously pounded a nail in the kitchen was good.
Here are some of the things that I have to work around – plumbing.
The stack going to the upstairs bathroom runs against the exterior wall – that happens to...

We have been building wood, composite and solid PVC decks and screened porches here in Lancaster County, PA since 1999. With over 12 years experience I can tell you the decision most families struggle with is what kind of decking material to choose for their new deck?
If initial cost were the only concern, the answer would always be simple: wood. Unfortunately, we must consider many important factors. Along with initial cost, the appearance you are looking for and long-term maintenance tim...

A bit of background… We (my wife and I) purchased our first house together in march of 2015 knowing that we would not move in until June. I talked her into a fixer based on the fact that myself and a buddy worked our way through college working for our landlord fixing up his old rentals and also flipping houses for him. So we swooped in and got a fixer out from underneath a local flipper because he was trying to nickel and dime the seller.
What made this a good purchase is that the e...

If there’s one thing I hate it’s sleeping in a bedroom that’s full of clutter and clothes everywhere. I always try to clear up my bedroom as best I can but unfortunately my boyfriend doesn’t seem to share my sense of tidiness and it always ends up with clothes and what not spread about the room! When I do get a chance to clean and tidy the room though, there are a couple of ideas I have in mind on how to turn it from something that’s average into something beautiful. Of course there are...

I’m relatively new to this whole blogging thing so please bear with me if this article isn’t quite up to Shakespearean standard just yet! This is my first blog post so I thought I’d make it about something that’s been interesting me as of late. Firstly, my main job is a real estate agent. So I guess you can say my main job is slightly boring! However, the last 3-4 years of so I’ve actually started taking up small DIY jobs in and around the house. My boyfriend has never been very good with thi...
