DIY Ideas #1: A few of my ideas of how to turn you bedroom from drab to fab

07-27-2015 10:36 AM by Katies_DIY_Blog | 17 comments »

If there’s one thing I hate it’s sleeping in a bedroom that’s full of clutter and clothes everywhere. I always try to clear up my bedroom as best I can but unfortunately my boyfriend doesn’t seem to share my sense of tidiness and it always ends up with clothes and what not spread about the room! When I do get a chance to clean and tidy the room though, there are a couple of ideas I have in mind on how to turn it from something that’s average into something beautiful. Of course there are...

DIY that adds Value to your Property #1: DIY adds more value you think

04-22-2015 06:20 PM by Katies_DIY_Blog | 117 comments »

I’m relatively new to this whole blogging thing so please bear with me if this article isn’t quite up to Shakespearean standard just yet! This is my first blog post so I thought I’d make it about something that’s been interesting me as of late. Firstly, my main job is a real estate agent. So I guess you can say my main job is slightly boring! However, the last 3-4 years of so I’ve actually started taking up small DIY jobs in and around the house. My boyfriend has never been very good with thi...

The Master #3: Peace

07-14-2013 08:39 PM by MarkTheFiddler | 81 comments »

I got up early and added some flooring then I weighted and waited. And weighted and waited. Then something broke loose and I was able to make a lot of good progress very quickly. I was simply laying floor and making cuts. The tools were just appearing in my hands. The glue slops were being cleaned. Weights were being distributed. Boards were being pre-inspected and sorted depending on the damage if any. New boards were coming in and being mixed in with the other boards. ...

Front Porch Job

01-13-2016 03:13 AM by dustynewt | 10 comments »

I posted this blog on LumberJocks about seven months ago. I had to edit it to restore photos (I have changed my photo host) so while I was at it, I thought I would post it here for my first HomeReburbers blog. The first major problem (project) started when I walked out the front door of my house one day and my foot went right through the slate porch. It shocked me more than anything because I thought the slate was bedded with a solid concrete pad. We have lived here for 25 years. I have al...

05-30-2015 08:00 AM by Mike Blank, CGR CAPS | 108 comments »

Today people are looking for ways to improve their homes for better living and more enjoyment. Investing a little time and money will go a long way to transform your home into the pride of the neighborhood. Curb Appeal – Let’s begin outside. Mow the grass, pull the weeds, edge the lawns and give the bedding areas the attention and maintenance they deserve. Liven up the planting areas with perennials for substance, and then go for color with annuals. Select a color scheme such as reds...

Just the beginning

02-02-2016 03:45 PM by KC_Kid | 7 comments »

A bit of background… We (my wife and I) purchased our first house together in march of 2015 knowing that we would not move in until June. I talked her into a fixer based on the fact that myself and a buddy worked our way through college working for our landlord fixing up his old rentals and also flipping houses for him. So we swooped in and got a fixer out from underneath a local flipper because he was trying to nickel and dime the seller. What made this a good purchase is that the e...

Your Decking Material Options: Pros and Cons

05-04-2011 08:00 PM by Mike Blank, CGR CAPS | 2 comments »

We have been building wood, composite and solid PVC decks and screened porches here in Lancaster County, PA since 1999. With over 12 years experience I can tell you the decision most families struggle with is what kind of decking material to choose for their new deck? If initial cost were the only concern, the answer would always be simple: wood. Unfortunately, we must consider many important factors. Along with initial cost, the appearance you are looking for and long-term maintenance tim...

Riding a Storm out

07-20-2011 02:46 PM by reedwood | 4 comments »

A hot week in August – one Hell of a time to replace a leaky flat roof on a music store. The old commercial building was in really bad shape. The old flat roof was rotten and had been leaking for some time. The numerous roof repairs in the sagging roof left pools of standing water which still leaked in everywhere and ran down inside the walls and just destroyed them. The heavy smell of musty mold permeated the air and left no doubt, this had to be fixed….now. ...

Women don’t want a ‘cave’ downstairs… they want a ‘subterranean sanctuary’!

10-08-2010 08:30 PM by Mike Blank, CGR CAPS | 0 comments »

Yea, we’ve all heard about the ultimate ‘man cave’ finished basement. You know, the place where a man can drink beer and talk sports with his buddies on Sunday’s. But what about the ladies? They make up a large portion of homeowners and in most cases are the ones initiating remodeling projects in their homes. So, I wondered, what would their dream basement renovation consist of? I figured I’d go right to the source, so via LinkedIn I asked some Central PA women this very question. What did...
