Living room floor

I bought my house almost 2 years ago and the upstairs had carpet which was a mess. When we ripped it out we found some 2” wide oak and then for some reason plywood. Seems like the previous owner was thinking of adding a second layer of ply to the subfloor and then maybe add something over?? The adjoining kitchen had the same layer of ply under the linoleum (spelling??). So we found that in order to get the flooring we wanted (she wanted 5” wide brazilian cherry), that we were looking at an easy 4k. Not in my budget, or even in my savings at the time. So I found that the area flooring mill has a 40 yrd dumpster where they throw out all cutoffs. To my surprise I found that...
