I just discovered this site, via lumberjocks. I have been working on our massive dining room project for over a year now! Here’s the history:

My wife and I inherited an antique dining room set from her grandparents, but we did not yet have a dining room. When we bought the house, we had plans for turning the front living room into a dining room, as we also had another room serving as a family room elsewhere in the house. So, time to get cranking on the dining room project!

As you can see, it is a ranch house with a 5’ x 20’ recessed front porch. The front door opening right into the front living room.

The plan: close in the front porch, thereby adopting the extra 100 sq ft for interior space, and split the old living room in 2, making a dining room and new foyer.

Of course, I had to start this in the middle of winter. Always need new challenges :-)
