Sunroom #5: Into the SLC we go...

I’m writing this entry as more of a checklist / where I’ve been for myself. I’ve watched a lot of YouTube videos these past few days and read as much information as I could get my hands on about laying down SLC. There’s a great article on it at my favorite tile forum's reference library or lovingly called the reference library. Anyway, Here’s my short list of specs :

1. Room is 11×13, including one step, and one doorway
2. cardboard dams will be placed around the perimeter to allow for expansion of SLC once dried
3. To be overly protective of my freshly painted walls, craft paper will also be taped up around the bottom perimeter of the room above the cardboard dams to hopefully catch the majority of the splashes that will occur
4. SLC will be laid to 1/4” (gauge rake with 1/4” CAMs will help me to be successful in this)
5. Materials / Tools on hand: a. 6 bags of Mapei Self Leveler (Lowes) b. 2 5 gal. buckets c. Corded drill d. mixing paddle e. gauge rake f. finishing trowel (just in case)

Unfortunately I have no helper(s) and am going this alone. Debating on grabbing a third bucket so I can have two buckets of compound going but I really don’t see the need even though this stuff sets pretty quickly. going to do some more prep and get at this! Will return with a full report. :)
