So, I’ve been working at this for two weekends and one week of after work time. I’m leaving to go to work at 6:30am, working until 6pm, then driving an hour to get to the new house, working until midnight or so, wash, rinse, repeat.
First thing I did was pull the mom-mobile (our minivan, which I have co-opted for the duration of this project!) up to my workshop and load it all in. I’m one of those guys who needs to be organized, and I figure that my first step would be to clean out the basement area and set up a work space for myself.
Once that was set up, I started scraping…
There were several layers… from the wall out it was: Paint, wallpaper, paint, wallpaper, wallpaper, paint. Needless to mention, scraping was a big job…
More to come, but I’ve gotten a lot done, and wanted to get a quick update posted…
Next installment: Kitchen demo begins…

Hope you were using a steamer… Got to admit, the thing was a godsend for us when we stripped all the paper out of our new place. We ran into the same deal.. Paint, paper, paint, paper paper, etc. Was alot of layering.
Paper is evil stuff.. At least when people paint and layer over it.

I also have been through that and hate it….
A steamer does make it easier but more important make sure that you get off ALL the glue before you prime and paint or it will peel and crack after a while.
It looks like you have done alot. Hang in there!

FYI, for all y’all wallpaper haters, my technique was labor intensive (no steamer) but effective. The majority of the wallpaper was vinyl, so there wasn’t much I could do other than just take off the top vinyl layer, leave the glue and paper behind. I followed up with a garden sprayer filled with 1 1/2 gallons of water and 1/3 of a spray bottle of “Simple Green” cleaner… sprayed the glue/paper wait 5 minutes, and it peeled off with practically no effort, and all the glue came off as well, without leaving a residue behind!
Yeah, paper sucks… I’m glad that part’s over!
