My better half is out buying paint for our living room plus some other goodies. We have been in this house for a year now and although it was painted when we moved in we can not live with the color “which is in every room including the bathrooms”. I have no idea which color she is picking out, ah maybe a little idea and the operative words are “that’s a great color honey”. So here is what I am starting with. This first picture shows a 2” X 6” velcroed to the bricks below it which leaves only 28” from ceiling to top of the 2X6. 
We have a large screen TV that needs to have about 33” so next is where I broke out the bricks to gain height I will have to set the depth of the mantel as well.
The last picture is where I have removed to required number of bricks and cement over the mess left behind.

Good start to your next project. Is the fire place functioning? Did you install an insert?
That flat screen will look nice once it’s mounted. Can’t wait to see the color your wife picked out.

The flue was shot so I relined it and put in a BUCK 91 wood stove, now I need to keep the windows open or it gets around 83 – 87 Degrees now it stays about 74 even when its in the20s to 30s. The HVAC Ducts are undersized in this house (It has one 12” return about 2 off of the floor and another in the basement I also ave a good size opening for a free standing stove. At some point I will have to balance the two systems.

Today I cut profiles to see which ones will look good and I like. Tomorrow I build a jig so I can cut coves on my table saw I hope I don’t meed to buy any more bits for my router I should have enough to make a nice cove.crown to make the angle from top to bottom plus any decorative part I add.
