Rural Setting Doesn't Stop this Woodworker.

In the countryside of rural Pennsylvania is a wood working shop that has found its customers by their reputation. A business surrounded by woods and farmland they have survived and grown from a one man shop in 1996 to an 8 full time employees and 15,000 sf of manufacturing. How did they do it?

One impression I had as I worked with Glen A Hissim Woodworking is they do have a reputation of doing it right the first time. Glen started the shop as a carpenter woodworker that loved doing fine woodwork. He used to build his cabinets on site to setting up his garage to a one man shop. Word of mouth became his best advertiser.

Ellyn Barr of Ellyn Barr Designs in nearby town of Glenside said that “Hissim is her go to guy when she has a very difficult or demanding job. They can even still come on site and do what ever has to be done because it is too hard to do in a shop. Not only are the staff friendly and competent they always deliver on time.”

Recently Hissim had a unusual project that needed a custom made valance that was not possible for them to produce in their shop. Bob DeLeo manager of Hissim Woodworking turned to www.UltimateCarver.com to become his supplier with this unusual request. His customer wanted a custom made valance that had vines intertwined with a Celtic knot as the focal point. “Trying to find a company like yours is hard” said Bob to Steve Groeneweg co-owner of UltimateCarver.com with his wife Sherry. I did have to admit it is as we are just a Mom and Pop business with an unusual niche focus.

Hissim placed the order with Steve and Sherry and the project was underway. The customer was so happy with the custom made valances with her custom entertainment center that Bob and Steve are working now on a design of custom carved bed for her.
