This room was one of the first we started in the house. I put the bed in it after ripping out walls and floors and putting in new closets and woodwork then left it to do the rest of the house. The wife is gone for a couple of weeks to Florida and a cruise with my two sisters. I’ve taken this opportunity to make more furniture and decorate. So, a whirlwind bit of woodworking and shopping at home goods, marshals, JC Penney and such and here it is. A room decorated for us… with a woman in mind as a surprise for when she comes home.
It’s not easy for a guy to pick out bedding, pictures and rugs to get them too coordinate. The furniture part was actually easier in comparison.

The two new items for the room that I made this time around are above. The long narrow table for a light and decorative items. It’s made of cherry and finished with a couple of coats of tung oil. It was a quick build. No drawers and tapered legs. The thing is held together with pocket hole screws instead of the loose tenons I usually work with. Panels glued together and wood prepped in cut and one afternoon, assembled the next, then finished off the next.

The dressing stool is equally simple. it’s a roman design that is low and wide with curved arms. Again joining is pocket hole. I had some fabric and foam left over from stools I previously had done. Wrapped and stapled and voila. A one day project. Finish is again tung oil.

These items I have done and posted previously. The blanket chest was completed months ago. Notice the architrave moldings of oak on the window and doors. The tops are made of stacked ogee cuts and a cove made with a raised cabinet router bit and sandwiched and glued together.
