well here is the latest mantel/fireplace project of mine. Seems like I end up doing allot of mantels… This house was a gut from top to bottom…well we ended up keeping the floors…....the fireplace had paneling on it when we started..We sheet rocked the top part in and wired it for HD TV and built a simple little media center to the left of it and a bookcase to the right…...built the mantel, went for the arts and crafts look simple straight lines and put a dry stack stone on the bottom half. Turned out nicer than I can take pictures of :-(

I love mantles and fireplaces, I’m a wood stove guy as I make my own. The Mantle is super but what’s with the left cabinet with cleats on the wall to support the shelves? No disrespect meant but a side panel would look better to me. I really like the mantle & stone tho, was that your own design? Thanks for posting!

could you say that a little louder about the cleats…...looks a bit cheap/DIY to me….but the gal that was doing the colors/design asked if I could build it this way because she wanted to have the wall color show on it. Told her she could have the same thing with it built with a side panel but she thought that would look funny….go figure…oh well ..The mantel/stone/bookcase was ideas I had….they really give me a free run on most of the stuff…..nice clients to work for…..but I don’t pick out colors for paint…so they have a design gal…I’m on me 3rd house for them…..so I don’t fight her on many things….:-)

The fireplace is gorgeous! I love the built in bookcase too! As far as the cleats go, there is enough wall there to see the color. But hey, her choice not yours. It looks great. Even the floors!

Nice built-in. I like the mantel – your design?

I really like your mantle, nice clean lines. Can you tell me type of wood and how finished? The paint work looks great.

That looks great! The brick gives that space a warm look! I am excited to do something similar to mine! Thanks for the pictures!
