Did this the week we moved into the house. First pic is the finished product, 2nd is the ‘before’.
Decided on Bamboo because it’s a renewable resource and decided on removing the carpet because of the allergies my wife and I have. It’s nasty what lies beneath a carpet that’s been there for who knows how many years. There were even a couple of cigarette butts.
After ripping out the carpet, put about 1000 screws into the floor to stop the squeaks and then stapled down the rosen paper.
The flooring was stapled down with a pnumatic stapler. Take my advice and don’t use a stapler on bamboo. It’s a PITA! If you don’t have it dialed down just right, it will either split the bamboo tongue or leave it proud.
New baseboards and a new heat register added as final touches.

Thanks for the project. The cigarette butts were probably from the carpet layers.
Joke: A man was laying carpet and had just finished when he noticed a lump in the middle of the room. He felt his shirt pocket and his cigarettes were missing! Rather than take up the carpet, he got a section of 2X4 and tamped the lump down flat. Just as he finished, he noticed his cigarettes in the corner of the room as the lady entered the room and asked, “Mister, have you seen my parakeet?”

Huge upgrade! I sell a lot of bamboo flooring in Ocean Isle Beach, NC and generally find that most customers, while they appreciate the green qualities of the product look at that piece as almost an added bonus. The unique look, with its color variations and overall aesthetic appeal is the big driver.
