I have been accumulating field stone for several years [In NH they grow out of the ground year after year. Where do you think “Rock Garden” came from? ;) ] with the idea of building a rather elaborate dry set stone wall down by the road and up around the spruce. Well situations change and decided to move and the wall wasn’t built and there was a big ugly pile of rocks that rather hindered the “curb appeal” concept. So I decided one long weekend to pile them up or move them out. I decided on a smaller wall than originally envisioned. When it was done I wished I had made it a bit bigger because I still had several tons of rocks to move away. The main digging and setting took three days and I spent several more evenings chinking, back filling and moving the leftovers. It has survived a NH winter and three encounters with cars (that’s another story) so I guess I did OK. The new owners like it…. I think. I had fun. My friends think I’m nuts.

Peter, don’t listen to your friends, that wall looks just great! Where did you find the rock, some local breach?

Thanks for the kind comments. The rocks “grow” in the yard (in NH). I had gathered them over several years as the frost pushes them too high to ignore with the mower.
I love building stone walls. I’m in Florida now so I guess I’ll build sand walls. Bummer.
