This is a room i made for my dad before he passed. He came to live with my family in the spring of 2009 and passed on my birthday Nov. 21, 2009. He was a Marine to the end. I remodeled this room for him over the winter of 2009. I gutted down to the studs, added insulation, rewired, new windows, new baseboard heat new doors, enlarged the closet, wired for a HDTV so he could watch his NY Giants games in HD, and installed a new floor, pre-finished oak with a Koa inlay boarder. Dad was a carpenter by trade and was very proud of the outcome that was made for him. He was my inspiration and mentor. He is still missed by us all. The joked still come out, what would dad think??? Picture #3 and 6 are the old room.

You did a good thing for your Dad. Did he get to enjoy it before he passed? Maybe it’s a good thing he wasn’t watching the Giants this year. He’d be unhappy.

Yes, he enjoyed the room and the TV. He was with us from June – Nov. I thought he would have some pull for the Giants this year but I guess not.

I think you did very nice job, l know the feeling l built on a 2 bedroom private living space self contained for my Dad when he got cancer. My dad loved living with us from 1988 – 1995, as l am sure your dad did,
Then my Dad’s brother came to live with us but only lived 3 months in 2008, but had his own section of the house but was happy those 3 months..
If we can’t help our family out, when they need family to be there for them what kind of family are we?
