Finally got started with the part of house building that appeals to me – woodworking. Started the kitchen cabinets and have the uppers about done. Have a few more doors and drawers to build for the lower cabinets.
The pantry is basically done, and the wife has already started filling it up. The carcasses are made of birch ply and the face frames, doors, and drawers are ash. Bought a whole bundle of ash to do all the trim in the house, plus the cabinet work. And here’s proof, MS Debbie, you’re not the only one not afraid of color. This is called “Chili Pepper.”

Hi Tim,
This is looking pretty good. And you have a good start on the job.
It looks like you are moving fast enough to suit her since she is already starting to fill the cabinets before your end is completed. :)

Looking good. You might need more cabinet space before the doors are on. Nice red oak arched recessed panel doors, did you mill those yourself?

Thanks everyone. PaBull, yes I did all the milling in this house. This is all White Ash. Bought 1400bf of rough lumber and I’m planing and milling everything I need from it. I plan to trim the whole house in ash, including making the crown molding.

Sorry about calling this red oak :^(
All the milling will slow you down a bit, I think. But that’s what this is all about.

No problem. I always say, “ash is a poor man’s oak.” And the stain is a mixture of walnut and cherry, so it has that red oak color.
