Screening in a porch

Project by Craftsman on the Lake posted 07-01-2012 10:09 AM 5878 views 1 time favorited 5 comments Add to Favorites Watch

A couple a few houses down from me wanted screens built for their porch and a door moved from the inside of the porch to the outside. I used poplar with plate joints and pocket screws. I then rabbeted the inside edge of each screen and glued in aluminum screen door rails with corners from a big box store. This made the aluminum screening easier to install. The screens are held in place by threaded inserts in the posts on the house and stainless knobs. The existing vinyl screen door was moved to the outside of the porch after framing it in. The owner placed small sections of left over screening in the sweep slots at the bottom. My first screens. They came out pretty nice. And last evening during a visit she said it was the best money they had spent on the house. Success!

Looks great! Screening in a porch makes the space so much more user friendly.

Fantastic looking job. My general contractor friend always said there were 2 things that were important. !. your customer is happy and satisfied. 2. The home looks like it has never had anything added to it. It all looks original. I say success here!!
