Before we actually started building our house, I took the drawings, in 1/4”-1’ scale, cut our the elevations and build a model of our new to be build house. This helped my wife a lot to be able to see the house 3-dimensional. I used a set of old plans and glued it on thin cardboard. As you can see I used corrugated cardboard for roofing. I did not even finish the model, it served it’s purpose already.
Now that we are ready to do the yard, we will be using the model again and add the yard, with trees and paths. There is a Play house to be moved, and a barn. The pool needs a spot etc.

Great model building. You got that model to look a lot like your house. :] That was a good idea. We just started driving stakes and got the building going. I think my wife is more interested in the inside amenities, except for the porch and patio.

Tim, not sure what you are after, the inside amenities of your house or mine?

Mine. Talk about working with some one looking over your shoulder. Fortunately the wife works 3 hours a day, and I can usually get things done before she can change them. We’re always on the porch and the patio hasn’t been done yet, but we’re in agreement on them.

My favorite is moving outlets. “I told you I did not want it there…”

Been there, done that. I think only twice, with light boxes. But still it was after the sheet rock was up.

Exactly, I probably should have even made it with rooms and furniture, for her, but I just do not have the time for that.

That is a beautiful house Pabull! I can relate to ya as I had a big hand in the design of my house as well. Even though it’s a modular construction, you can redesign to fit your needs. Biggest problem was getting permission from the wife though! Anyhow we took the original plans, moved some walls and then flipped them over and told them to build the whole thing in reverse! (I wanted the master bedroom on the opposite side from the garage!) It’s funny…we built a Cape Cod style home and I wanted the garage set back 10’...drew it on scrap paper and showed the builder…It came out almost exactly like the drawing! I still have that drawing in the scrapbook too.
So ya got yourself one beauty of a home PaBull! Enjoy…and thanx for sharing!

Thanks Dadoo. I am glad you were able to get your house flipped and changed, that the builder was able to work with you.
We bought a set of plans and I spend two years changing and changing. We did the some thing, we reversed our house too. Than we planned a breeze way, that we filled the breeze way, etc. My wife had a very hard time visualising the house. While we were working with a draftsman to make the final set of plans, I took an old set and used it to make this model. And I got an “Oh Wow!” out of this.
