I like the slate, but I think I would have tried everything possible to repair\replace the old wood, just my opinion, I love a good hardwood floor.

i whole heartly agree with you,but out here in colorado you need a good area to brush the snow off and on to when you get in the house in the winter. plus a wet sleeping dog on hardwood is not a good thing.

That looks nice. We’re thinking about using slate on our front porch, mainly because it doesn’t look like it would be slick when wet. Thanks for the post.

Looks great. Slate it just gorgeous! One thing I would strongly suggest is to seal the crap out of the slate. Being a natural stone it is very porous and if it is in an area that will see a fair amount of weather/moisture mold can grow inside the stone as well as between the stone and sub floor. They recommend sealing slate about once a year or anytime you notice that water is absorbed into the stone. If it’s sealed the water will bead like on a waxed car.

I would take tile over hard wood any day where I live. Too much dirt and rock around to scuff it up.. Looks great. My floor is brick.

Wow! What a great surprise! I’m so glad that you decided to pull up the carpet in your new house, because beneath it was a beautiful slate floor. It’s amazing that it was in such good condition, garage door repair orange county despite being in a bad shape near the door. Kudos to you for giving it a little help – it looks fantastic!
