I bought a 18” wood master planer and my old dust collector is not powerful enough. What size would you suggest. My shop is 24×32, and I have table saw, band saw, router table, jointer, miter saw.

It’s my choice of DC systems.
These guys will help you make the choice without steering you to the most expensive.

Anything less then a 3hp model will not mork. I have a 12” and 25” model. The 12” is on a 3hp and the 25” is on a 5hp. Wish I had 3 phase to get a larger dc system.

From what I have found to read, there has never been a recorded case of a home shop dust collector causing an explosion with plastic duct. With that said I would also say that it is impossible to ground an insulator (plastic). Yes static will happen. Yes metal is better. I was in the Grizzly tool store in Springfield MO about 18 months ago. i was looking at their display of dust collectors. Another customer walked by and said get the largest when you but and you won’t have to come back like I did. I am looking to buy a collector soon. My readings indicate the diameter of the impeller says it all. the larger the better. You have a fair sized shop. You could run a lot of pipe in it. Think about all that before you jump in and buy a cheap 2 HP with a 10” impeller.

you need to go to Lumberjocks. There are miles of threads on DC. From HP to pipe size. Here is the system I built. As a starter setup there is no more bang for the buck than the HF 2HP. If you are spending in the 1200+ range there is none better than the Clearvue.
