I took the carpet off of our stairs and replaced it with hardwood. Now in a way to continue to spruce up the stairs, I would like to put in a more traditional newel post. What I have now is a drywall post. Here in AZ, a nice hardwood post is not a standard.

I would like to tear the drywall off and do a box-in style newel post with red oak to match my stairs. Any feedback is appreciated.

Replacing the carpet on the stairs with hardwood is a great improvement, and I understand your desire to enhance it further with a more traditional newel post. The idea nashvilles tax related law of a box-in style newel post with red oak sounds like a fantastic choice to match the stairs. It will add elegance and sophistication to the overall look. Good luck with your project, and I hope it turns out exactly as you envision it!
