Topic tags/keywords: milestone 1000 members challenge suggestions

I’m glad to announce you that we’ve reached the milestone 1000 members. I would like to thank to all members for creating this site better. On the other side, comparing with LJ and GT, I’m thinking why we have so few projects, blogs and comments.

  • HR (5.3 comments/member)
  • LJ (44 coments/member )
  • GT (41 coments/member )

Maybe it’s because it is more dificult to refurb or build something in the house than make anything small from wood. Or maybe average builder/refurbisher doesn’t make so many projects during the year as average woodworker does. On the other side refurbishing/building is not a hobby like gardening.

The problem can be also the name of the website – HomeRefurbers – which indicates that only people who are refurbishing something can post here. It’s not true. Members can post everything that is connected with the house – building, remodeling, refurbishing and also decorating, designing. Feel free to ask any question about anything that you are doing in, in front or next to your house.

I would like to launch a challenge in the summer, but in order to make it successful, we need more activity on the website.

What do you think? Any ideas/suggestions?

I think a lot of the home renno projects are posted over at LJs. Is there some way to link projects back and forth?

It’s not possible to post project to both sites LJ.com and HR.com with just one click. But each project can be embeded to another website. When you go to project page, there is box on the left side called “Embed This Project”. Just copy the code and paste it to the content area.

Example:

I think a challange is good.

I kinda lost my interest for the same reason, there were only 3 guys chasing each other with the same old coments.

I think you need to start some HR wikipedia for DIY-ers that can be updated by the members. This should be as user friendly as wikipedia AND as easy to use as a Do-it-your-self home repair book.

(This might work for Lumberjocks too, maybe??)

And an other request: could you put a spellcheck feature or button in for us bad spelling people?

I like the idea of the spellcheck feature. We have to think about it and find out how to implement this kind of feature.
For the wikipedia: We discussed this one in the past and maybe it’s time to open the discussion again.

Thanks PaBull.
