I am installing lap siding on my home. See related threads posted earlier. I have decided to remove the stucco and install the siding directly to the studs. During the removal of the stucco, I have damaged the metal vent material at the bottom of the stucco walls. Can I install the lap siding directly on the studs without replacing the stucco vent material? Is the vent necessary with lap siding?

I also tore some of the black building paper during the demo. Can I simply cover the existing building paper with Tylek building wrap? I have some 30# roofing felt left over from another project. Can I use this to install over the damaged building paper?

The answer to both questions Bob is yes, no problems with doing either.

Thanks UnionLabel, I’ll let you know how things worked out. The stucco removal is pretty hard work and is very heavy and awkward to deal with.
