Hoping you all can assist with this one… I have an attached deck I am putting in shortly. 10 ft off the ground, 16’ long x 12’ deep deck. Deck will be attached with ledger for 13.5’ thru brick veneer thru to band board with 1/2 bolts.

However, the last 2.5’ of the deck will end at a bump out. I do not want a post under this section of the house. I want to tie it in somehow so as not to have the post ruining the under space.

My initial Plan was to tie in thru the existing house floor joist by sistering my deck joist to those and resting them on the foundation wall. This will be structurally sound, but introduces the possibility of water into the house.

I can find multiple mentions online of house to frame around a bump out, bay window, or fireplace, but never one that touches on how to do this when the deck does stops mid bump out?

Anyone know how to frame this.

I would want to caution you on bolting through brick veneer and “clamping” this with the bolts to the rim joist. This could pull the bricks back and cause a structural problem in the wall. Brick veneer does not fit tightly against the joist. It usually has an inch of space between the inside of the bricks and the wall of the house. The bricks are not a load bearing structure. You need to follow the local codes and get some help from a structural person on this project. I am not sure what I would do myself but I don’t think I would bolt through my brick veneer wall.

hire an engineer or architect to consult. MUCH cheaper than a major home repair
