I have replaired plaster in a 50s house with much success, but in one bedroom my repair work starts peeling with a month after finishing it.

I am using standart wall joint compounds.

Can someone recommend a different compound that would prevent this peeling?

Have you checked to make sure that the paint is sanded down first? Sometimes this can couse bonding issues. For repairs I perffer the fast setting powder. It is used alot for the first coat as it bond well to older drywall.
