I live in a subdivision house that has a lousy wiring job that was done the quickest and cheapest way. I’m in the process of sectioning off a part of the basement/garage for a WW shop. I need a separate line for a light in what will be a storage area. The problem: The wiring to a particular switch and light is a single wire, with the white going to one pole on the switch and the black going to the other pole. I have tried a couple of ways to run a line off this switch/line but can’t. I wind up with two switches going to the one existing light. Both switches operate the existing light with no power going to the storage area light! FWIW, the ceiling is sheetrock so running a separate line from the box will be a pain in the posterior. The only way I see to run a light is to tap into a line I ran for running shop equipment so it doesn’t rip the breaker (the entire basement is on one breaker). Couldn’t run a shop vac and saw off the same circuit. Any help is appreciated. -- I got out of the rat race. The rats kept winning. |
