Recently we had some minor water damage clean-up. Part of that was to replace carpet in one bed room. We laid some pre-padded carpet. Now I need to seem that together with the hallway carpet which is traditional pad and frieze. The traditional padded carpet in the hallway is noticably thicker than the new pre-padded carpet in the bedroom. Any advice on creating a nice transition?

When I needed to level out floors there is a product you can trowel from a thickness of 1” to a feather. It is Laticrete Floor Leveling product.. What you would need to do is trowel a feather amount to bring the lower pile product up to the higher carpet. It can be stoned if you need to smooth it out, but a careful use of the trowel you can increase the sub-floor level to match the carpet pile and create the desired results. You may need to use a polymer if you are on wood, read the instructions.
